Legate of the Eastern Diocese

The Legate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Eastern), based in Washington, D.C., serves as the "diplomat" of the Armenian Church in the United States. He actively participates in ecumenical and interfaith organizations to represent the Armenian Church on the national and international stage.
Archbishop Vicken Aykazian is the current Diocesan Legate and Ecumenical Director, who has served in that capacity since 2000.
Through his affiliations with, and leadership within, ecumenical and interfaith organizations, the Legate builds relationships with sister Christian denominations, interacting and exchanging ideas with their respective leaders and communities. Archbishop Aykazian is especially active in the National Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.—America's pre-eminent Christian ecumenical group—and in the World Council of Churches—which reaches out to churches in 110 countries.
In addition to advocating for causes of importance to the Armenian people, the Legate encourages Armenian Christians to answer God's call in their own lives. In his travels to local Armenian parishes throughout the U.S., he instructs parishioners to effectively participate in, and contribute to, their local communities.
